On-board diagnosis

On-board diagnosis is one of the functions of Digital Motor Electronics (DME). Its task is to identify defects before they can cause any damage.

Defect reports are memorised electronically and are subsequently presented on the screen of the BMW diagnostic information system at the workshop. This facilitates the process of trouble-shooting considerably and helps to reduce the cost of maintenance.
